First in India to Develop the arthroscopy of elbow, wrist, ankle and hip (as per citation by National Academy of Medical Sciences
Dr. Gupta is a distinguished orthopedist, teacher and researcher.He established knee arthroscopy in the region in 1998, when few centers in India had expertise for it. He was the first in India to introduce, develop and standardize the techniques of arthroscopy of hip, ankle, wrist and elbow joints in 2003. During these years he continuously worked to teach and develop the subspe-ciality of sports medicine cum arthroscopy through workshops and live demonstration surgeries in various parts of India. He has invented two surgical techniques: one for reconstruction of unstable distal radioulnar joint (wrist) and second for repair of biceps rupture (elbow); both having remarkably better outcomes in comparison to the existing techniques. He was invited to present the former techniques in Korea, Thailand and Japan and was conferred as Japan Hand Fellow in 2006.
